Okay, so I’m definitely a convert of the cloth diapers now. I purchased enough that we really haven’t been using ‘sposies at all – all cloth, all the time. I’m loving it. The little guy’s aren’t having near the diaper rash that they normally do, although I did come to the conclusion that Noah has an issue with the hemp diapers. He had a bad case of yuck butt for awhile but I stopped using the hemp prefolds at night and his poor little butt is making a miraculous recovery. Not to mention, his eczema is almost gone. YAY!!!!
Additionally, I decided to go totally cloth for myself with my most recent period. An amazing thing happened. I think I had a “normal” period for the first time in my life.
Let me explain to you what my normal is, which is most likely nothing like your normal, and then we’ll go from there.
My normal is heavy. Really heavy. It looks as though I’m hemorrhaging most of the time. And really, really, really, really, painful. I mean horrendous pain. Now that I’ve experienced labor, I know that my period pain is very similar. No, really. I’m not exaggerating there.
This time around? As I sit here and think about it, I don’t think I had a single cramp. Not one. I am certain of this because I did not take a single ibuprofen or naproxen and I usually wind up swallowing handfuls of them just to half-way cope with the pain. I was absolutely elated that I was experiencing a period which I would have described as pleasant, if one could describe a period in that way. It was also fairly short.
The only times I’ve ever experienced a period that light and pain-free was when I was on birth control and, as such, it was a “manufactured” period. Although it, too, always came with some pain.
I have no idea what is different about the cloth. I don’t know why the disposables would cause a period to be heavier/painful/longer, but I don’t intend to go back to try to find out.
