I have always loved photography. Both looking at other people’s and taking my own. In high school, I had an old Pentax 35mm that I adored. I loved shooting in black-and-white because I could process the film myself. I longed for a darkroom so that I could develop film as well.

Once the digital cameras came out, I really couldn’t afford more than a point-and-shoot so, with the exception of the normal, everyday kid shots, I pretty much stuffed my passion back down and ignored it for years.

Jon has a hobby. He enjoys “playing” with HO scale trains. Admittedly, I’ve been a bit jealous because I’ve had nothing. He has an escape, I have nada.

Then, for Christmas, he got me a DSLR. A Nikon D3200. I’m in heaven. The only problem is that it’s been so darn cold, I can’t really do much with it except take some random indoor shots of the kids that, without a proper flash, keep being way underexposed. I did find a cheapy flash that should be on its way to me. It should work well for my uses.

And with that, I have a hobby again.

Do you have any hobbies? You know, things that make you, “you”? Things you do that don’t necessarily involve children or significant others?

I was fortunate enough to receive a camera for Christmas. It’s a Nikon D3200. An entry level DSLR. I have been enjoying it, although the weather has been so very cold that I’ve not been able to enjoy it as much as I would like.

At some point I do hope to at least take one class. I very much need a refresher course because it’s been years since I have done any real photography and that was on an old 35 mm.

In any case, you’ll probably start seeing more photos pop up from time to time. Consider yourself warned. 😉
