First day of school

Ceili Fey started seventh grade and Noah started first grade last Thursday. They were very excited. Unfortunately, Noah refused to cooperate with pictures.

Henry started pre-k Monday. He was excited but very apprehensive. Luckily, he did great. He even wants to go back! Yay!!

Even better, he actually spoke in class when the teacher asked a question. Yes!!!!

The latest updates

I know it’s been ages since I’ve posted anything. We’ve been pretty busy between work, school, and home.

Ceili Fey is enjoying middle school. She signed on for the school paper and was hoping to get involved with student council as well. She is discovering that middle school requires more attention to detail as well as more work!

Noah is doing well in kindergarten. While the first day was a little rough, he seems to love it now. He’s got several little girls that seem enamored with him – and, quite possibly, he with them. Unfortunately, starting school hasn’t decreased the whining in the least.

Henry is doing a bit better in new situations. It helps if he has something he can control about the situation. For instance, if we go out for supper with others, we let him pick where he will sit and who will sit next to and across from him. This has greatly eliminated some of the hiding under the table and quivering for the duration of the meal.

Calvin is one hard-headed little dude. He doesn’t give up and he certainly doesn’t take no for an answer. He’s also pretty funny. Especially when he tries to say things like “Uh-oh, Spaghetti-Os” or people’s names. Unfortunately he’s still not into the idea of sleeping away from mama, which is incredibly frustrating.

Happy Fifth Birthday, Noah!

To Noah, on your fifth birthday. Yes, I know this is a bit late – your birthday was the 21st – but things have kept me super busy and I’ve not posted much.

It’s hard to believe that you’re going to be starting kindergarten later this year. This is at such an exciting moment, yet is also colored with some wistfulness. You were supposed to have a bigger brother – and best friend – who was going to ride the bus with you and help you to adjust to the new things at school… I’m sorry that was not to be.

Even though you’ll have to go it alone, I’m very confident that you can do it. You’re doing wonderfully in pre-k and I just know you’ll continue to do wonderfully once you start kindergarten. You’ve made some good friends already who will be going to school with you – perhaps you’ll even be on the bus with one of them.

You’ve been through a lot in your life, little buddy. I would like to be able to tell you that nothing bad will happen in your life ever again, but things don’t work like that. All we can do is take what we’re given, do the best we can, and hope for the best. In your case, I’m certain you’ll do great!

Happy fifth birthday, little guy.
